National Day Calendar - April

It's April so what can we celebrate other than April Fools Day or the dreaded Tax Due day - no one I know celebrates that day, unless of course your receiving money - well good thing there's The National Day Calendar for other more unusual ideas.

As with March I'm only going to pick the first ten days of April for ideas, so let's get started.

April 1st - National Sourdough Bread Day
Sourdough is produced through a the process of long fermentation of the dough using lactobacilli and yeasts.  Most likely the first form of leavening available to bakers, it is believed sourdough originated in Ancient Egyptian times around 1500 BC.

April 2nd - National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day
This food holiday is a classic favorite of many.  The average American will have eaten over 2000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by the time they graduate from high school.

April 3rd - National Chocolate Mousse Day
This decadent dessert that gained popularity in France in the 1800s. Mousse is prepared by beating eggs or cream or both to a frothy, airy consistency and then folding the ingredients together to create a light, creamy delight.

April 4th - National Walk Around Day
You can look at this day several ways, walking around objects such as mud puddles or avoiding potential problems like arguments. Another way would be to actually walk around your neighborhood, a local park or maybe the mall.

April 5th - National Read A Road Map Day
The earliest road map, Britannia Atlas, was drawn by cartographer John Ogilby in 1675. Fast forward a few centuries, and wow how things have changed!  With satellites, GPS and voice commands do we really know how we get anywhere anymore?

April 6th - National Tartan Day
Americans of Scottish descent have played a vibrant and influential role in the development of the United States. From the framers of the Declaration of Independence to the first man on the moon, Scottish-Americans have contributed mightily to the fields of the arts, science, politics, law, and more.

April 7th - National No Housework Day
This is the excuse you have been looking for.  Absolutely no sweeping, dusting, laundry, dishes and all the other items that fall into the housework group.  Catch up on a book, have coffee with friends or anything else that you enjoy.

April 8th - National Zoo Lovers Day
This would be a perfect day to visit a zoo and be one of the other millions of people who visit them each year. Enjoy seeing your favorite animals swinging from the trees or splashing in the water and have a fun-filled day.

April 9th - Name Yourself Day
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to have a different name, this would be your day to find out.  If you like your name and do not want to play along and try a new name then you can choose a nickname.  The nickname might just stick with you.

April 10th - National Siblings Day
It is a day created to honor your brother(s) and/or your sister(s).
Spend some time with your siblings, maybe read a book or talk about bears.

There you have it some unusual fun things to celebrate during the month of April, while we wait for the warm weather. For a complete list of the full month visit The National Day Calendar.
