It seems hard to believe that it's time for another Christmas but as always time has a way of just flying by and there are only twenty-one more days until that magical day arrives. As with Thanksgiving we all have our traditions for the holiday not to mention decorating, this is one of those times when I like to say "Decorate Simple" or "Go Way Over The Top".
Because everyone has a particular decorating style for Christmas, I'd like to use this post for some festive photographs to help get the mood set - maybe even give you some new ideas.
Start the holiday's right at the front door, what better way to welcome guest (or even yourself) to your home. Of course nothing says "Happy Holidays" like a festive wreath, this one from BHG is really cute and looks super easy to make. A foam wreath form wrapped with sleeves from an old sweater, add a festive colored bow and ice skates (you might have some old skates kicking around).
Another festive idea provided by Better Homes & Gardens (love their web-site and magazine) is this outdoor bench. Love those giant pinecones, (I actually found a few of those this year at Homegoods) mixed with the fresh pine boughs just says "Christmas". If you don't happen to have a bench like this an outdoor chair would work just as well, this idea could also be moved inside for a festive look. Now I know the pine needles can be a bit messy but hey, it's only Christmas once a year.
One last idea from Better Homes & Gardens is sprucing (no pun intended) up your mailbox. This is another simple project, cutting some boughs - wiring them together, add some pinecones - then draping over the mailbox, think how you might put a smile on your mail persons face when driving or walking up to your mailbox.
Nothing says "Christmas" or takes center stage more than a beautiful decorated tree, that's one reason I like to keep my other holiday decorating simple, let the tree shine. I'm not going to comment on the following photos from Southern Living, the trees really speak for themselves.
Of course putting up a wreath and decorating a beautiful tree is only the beginning, adding all the little accessories is what really personalizes your home for the holidays. So bring out the storage buckets from the basement or attic, unpack and have some fun, after all that's what this magical holiday is all about.
